(MONTEREY, CA) The past several weeks have brought many tragedies, the horrific murder of George Floyd, the destruction of personal property throughout the United States and the murders of many other Americans, including the disgusting targeting of our peace officers.
And now, calls from the Left to "Defund the Police" have begun.
We must defend our police as well as hold them accountable. As we call for higher standards to weed out bad apples, we must not turn our backs on the majority that risk their lives to protect us and our community daily.
Perhaps we should look at the Union machine. It's the same system that protects bad teachers and the same system that protects politicians from public exposure with sexual scandals.
The false notion that all police are systematically racist is destructive to our national unity. Of course, black lives matter. Your life matters. My life matters. We all matter.
Local "progressive" leaders are now calling to defund our police. Does the Central Coast have a larger problem with bad cops, or gang violence? Do we want to live in a community without the rule of law?
The choice is ours. I side with families, rule of law, and public safety.
