SHELTER IN PLACE - OUR POSITION
The Monterey County Republican Party strongly endorses all effort to repeal the shelter-in-place order invoked by the health officer and the Board of Supervisors. We are aware of the pain and suffering being inflicted on the many citizens of this county: businesses have closed, some forever, and thousands of folks are without income.
This is an example of over-reaction to threat by taking the easy path of penalizing all rather than doing the hard thinking required to focus attention and resources on the small regions where a problem exists or on susceptible populations.
We are concerned that pandemic is being used to convince voters to increase the use of mail-in ballots that will open the voting to even more fraud and manipulation. Legal approval and implementation of ballot harvesting is the result of this kind of manipulation. Absentee voting should be allowed but carefully controlled. In person voting should be encouraged and require a VOTER ID.
The answer is to remove the constraints and trust the people to make sound decisions to protect themselves and their families.
