District 4 Central Committee Candidates

Voters will be asked to vote for no more than 5

BRIAN L. BURLESON

Police Officer

The Democratic Party and its policies are the biggest threat this country has ever faced.  I'm running for the Monterey County Republican Central Committee to help get Republican candidates who are willing to fight their destructive policies elected into office.

I also want to help re-register voters who are concerned about the destructive policies of the Democratic Party into the Republican Party.

Please consider voting for me for a seat on the Central Committee.

JERRY B. EDELEN

Retired Army Officer

If reelected to the Monterey County Republican Party Central Committee, I will use my energy and experience to continue to serve our Monterey County residents.

I have served the City of Del Rey Oaks (DRO) and our region for over 25 years.  I became Mayor in 2009 and was reelected 5 consecutive times with my most recent term ending in 2018.  Following that, I was elected to the Central Committee of the Monterey County Republican Party (MCRP), then to the MCRP Executive Committee as First Vice Chair.

I graduated from Monterey High School, received a B.S. degree in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, an M.A. in Education from Stanford University and an M.B.A. Degree in Business Administration from Long Island University.

Upon retirement from the U.S. Army in 1992 as an Airborne Ranger Lieutenant Colonel, I was awarded the Legion of Merit. In 1995, I returned to Del Rey Oaks with my wife Gloria and two sons, Rhett and Mick, after working in the Middle East for 4 years at the Abu Dhabi Men’s College as a Program Manager.

I am a former Campus Director of Brandman University in Monterey, a former District Captain of the 1,200 member U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary 11th District North and have volunteered over 10,000 unpaid hours as a member over the last 11 years.

If reelected, I stand ready to continue my service to all Republicans in our County.

I am running to be re-elected to the Monterey County Republican Party Central Committee, because of my strong commitment to our local Republican Party. My vision is to educate, inform and inspire by reaching new voters that will help to grow and transform the MCRP. My core values are in line with the Republican Party, including personal freedom, God given rights, limited government, individual responsibility, school choice, the rule of law.

I had served as the President of the Monterey Peninsula Republican Women Federated and I am currently serving on the MCRP executive committee, as the 2nd Vice Chair. If reelected, my goals and mission are as follows:

* Help to Increase the Republican voter base by developing voter registration and outreach programs to all who share our core values and beliefs and to identify new voters.
* Promote the election of Republicans to Monterey County.

SHAUN B. SMITH

Water System Operator

Hello, my name is Shaun Smith and it is an honor to run for the Republican Central Committee and potentially serve as a representative for conservatives of our community. I am currently 29 years old and grew up in the wonderful community of Prunedale. I was homeschooled K-12 and was concurrently enrolled at Hartnell College while in high school. I graduated from Hartnell as a Summa Cum Laude (Valedictorian) and the first of my class to graduate in 2017. I earned a second degree in Water Resource Management from Gavilan College in 2021 and currently work in a rewarding and blessed career as a fully certified Water System (Utility) Operator for Aromas Water District. My passions are in many areas one of these being to serve my community in a meaningful way such as political discourse and education. I firmly believe that we need to support honest, constitutional candidates for office who are full of the Holy Spirit and are known for integrity. As a Central Committee member, I would make it one of my primary goals to help elect great conservatives to office who love the Lord and their community. I personally love Jesus with all my heart and wish for His Love and Truth to be known throughout the world. Therefore, I wish to worship Jesus in all areas of life whether this be politics, at home, in church, or in our community! Thank you for considering my ticket for Republican Central Committee and for your precious time.

BEN STRICKLAND

Community Volunteer

I’m a Disabled American Veteran, and I’ve been actively involved with the Monterey County Republican Party for 13 years.

I serve as a Community Volunteer locally as an Appointed City Commission Chairman. This volunteer work has been to alleviate homelessness in our community with humanitarian collaboration and local solutions. I’m humbled and proud of everyone I’ve worked with, what we’ve accomplished, and the direction we’re going with our efforts to help the unhoused.

Since I returned to civilian life from my service in the United States Navy, I’ve had over 10 years experience working both as a Private Security Officer and a Math and Physics Tutor. I’ve also earned 4 Associate Degrees.

Three words encapsulate my drive: Duty, Service, and Sacrifice. I have a sense of duty to serve my country and I have a skill set in politics from my experience. By choice I sacrifice personal time to help elect Republicans and grow the party, all while striving for party unity and collaboration. I wish to continue to use my talents to spread conservative principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility, especially to our youth. It’s imperative for future generations to understand the freedoms our Constitution guarantees and what makes our country so special. America has been hurting and I cannot turn my back on her.

When reelected, I promise to continue to grow the Republican Party and empower Patriots. I humbly ask for your vote and support. Thank you, and God Bless America.
